BAND CAMP 2026-2027 INFO (updated 6.20.26)

The 2026 LGHS Marching Band halftime show is titled "Birds of a Feather and will feature songs from the Rio movies! Since we perform at the first football game the 2nd week of school, it is SUPER important students attend band camp! Please see below for the information. Including what to bring, forms, dates and times, etc.​

These forms must be turned in at band camp. The Medical Form MUST BE NOTARIZED. There are notary signers at most Banks, Lawyers Offices, as well as the LGHS Front Office. We also have notary available at some of our events, you just need your ID! These forms go with us on every trip!

SPORTS PHYSICALS FOR BAND ARE NOW REQUIRED. Here is the information.

Sports physicals are required for all Polk County Public Schools high school band students. Please follow these steps to complete this process:
**Band students do NOT need an EKG, but any students participating in sports will need one.**
  1. Create an account on the website/platform "Aktivate"
  • Please see the attached instructions for how to create an account.
  1. Complete the Concussion for Students Course
  2. Complete the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course
  3. Complete the Heat Illness Prevention Course 
  4. Complete the Sportsmanship Course
  5. Complete a Sports Physical (this can be done with your students primary care physician, urgent care, etc.)
  6. Upload ONLY pg. 4 of your Sports Physical to your Aktivate Account
  • DO NOT turn your physical into Ms. Lutz, it MUST be uploaded to Aktivate

WHAT TO WEAR--- (posted 5.08.26)
WE WILL BE OUTSIDE, IT IS GOING TO BE HOT, & WE ARE GOING TO BE MOVING!! :D For their safety, students are NOT permitted to wear jackets, hoodies, sandals, crocs, or jeans while outside. 

We recommend:
  • School appropriate tank tops (no spaghetti strap, no low cut, no crop tops)
  • Light colored, dri-fit, school appropriate t-shirts 
  • School appropriate shorts or leggings​
  • Required: Closed toe sneakers (something easy to move in such as tennis shoes, not boots)

  • Your own personal 2 quart cooler of water (there are no water fountains available outside)
  • A bagged lunch 
    • ​Students may NOT have food delivered to the school, they must bring it with them
    • There is not a fridge or microwave available for student use
    • You MUST eat lunch, your body needs the nutrients to replenish yourself after being outside!

The check in table will be in the hallway of the music building (facing the parking lot). Arrive early enough to turn in your forms.

  • Inside Portion: Winds in Band Room, Percussion in Chorus Room, and Guard in Auditorium

It's always more fun to see students showing off some spirit, so join us in the following dress up days!
  • Monday (7.20) - Dress Like a Bird! 
    • Because our show is Rio...duh!
  • Tuesday (7.21) - Soccer Mom vs BBQ Dad!
  • Wednesday (7.22) - Country Club vs Country!
  • Thursday (7.23) - Beach Day!
    • This is also our water day, we recommend bringing a change of clothes!
  • Monday (7.27) - White Lies!
    • Wear a white shirt with a white lie!
  • Tuesday (7.28) - Twin Day!
  • Wednesday (7.29) - Jersey Shore vs Sports Jersey! 
  • Thursday (7.30) - Dress Like Your Water Bottle!

"All work & no play makes Jack a dull boy." Each day we will have an activity planned for students to participate in!

  • Monday (7.20) - Shipwreck!
  • Tuesday (7.21) - Design a Section Flag!
    • Kona Ice is coming during lunch! Students must bring their own money to purchase :D
  • Wednesday (7.22) - Scavenger Hunt!
  • Thursday (7.23) - Shark and Minnows (with water!)
    • We recommend bringing a change of clothes! 
  • Monday (7.27) - Murder Mystery!
  • Tuesday (7.28) - Squid Games!
  • Wednesday (7.29) - Music Video! 
  • Thursday (7.30) - Karaoke
    • "Soak a Section Leader/Staff Member" - celebrate the last day of band camp by soaking a section leader or band staff member! Students who participate will also recieve a frozen treat!

      • $10 = Medium bucket of water OR water squirter
      • $15 = Large bucket of water

Monday July 20th- Thursday July 23rd: 8:00 am-3:00 pm
Monday July 27th- Thursday July 30th: 8:00 am- 3:00 pm

PARENT PREVIEW PERFORMANCE
Tuesday August 4th: 7:00 pm (
Students are expected to be in the band room by 5:30 pm to rehearse for this performance) 

This will be the first performance of the year to show off what we have learned during camp so please come out to our back practice field (behind the school) to support our Tribe Members!


PRE-SCHOOL EVENING PRACTICES
Tuesday August 4th: 5:30 pm-8:30 pm
Thursday August 6th: 5:30 pm-8:30 pm 


SHOE FITTING, Wednesday, July 29th (12 pm)
All students are required to have a pair of marching band shoes (dinkles). New students, or students needing new marching shoes, the shoe company will be here during camp for shoe fitting. Winds and Percussion Shoes will be around $36 and Guard Shoes will be around $49. Checks/Money Orders need to be made out to LGHS Band, or Cash can be accepted as well. THIS IS NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR DUES!

UNIFORM FITTING, July 27th-30th (2 pm )
Winds and percussion students will be having their marching uniform fitting take place one day during band camp. Students will need to wear a t-shirt and non-bulky shorts to try on the uniforms to ensure a proper fit. Time blocks are going to be sorted by grade level, they will start at 2 pm and go until we are finished with that grade, meaning students may not be ready for pickup until closer to 3:30 pm on their assigned day. 
  • Monday, July 27th - Seniors 
  • Tuesday, July 28th - Juniors
  • Wednesday, July 29th - Sophomores
  • Thursday, July 30th - Freshman

BAND DUES
Between performing at football games, parades, MPA’s, etc. our band students do a lot! Because of this we incur a lot of expenses. To participate in the band program students are required to pay band dues. You will have the opportunity to decrease dues through volunteering & fundraising. Please see the chart below detailing what their dues cover.
